Yesterday (20 Jun 07), I finally met a very important person Budi Rahardjo. I met many people in his office at Cyber Building, Kuningan, including mas Johar and mbak A’i (apology for mispelling). It was a memorable event and I would never forget for the rest of my life because there was a lot of value addition for me, especially. Who knows, last night’s meeting would be landmark for my bright future endeavor? For sure GOD knows …
Why a Wikinomics Trip?
Mas Budi knows it well why I title this article like this. The meeting was triggered when I was reading approximately the first 12 pages of Wikinomics book by Don Tapscott. I was actually at the swimming pool accompanying my daughter, Dian, at Citos. I enjoyed reading the book while my earphone bombarded progressive metal music of Dream Theater “Systematic Chaos” album at the pool side. It’s really a mind boggling book with a lot of new learning for me because I have never known most of subjects featured in the book. I was so amazed with the content and hooked with page by page reading while marking important points with yellow stabillo boss. I was so fascinated and suddenly one person name struck into my head; a persong who is really expert in IT and Network Security. He is also a crazy musician (guitar and vocal) in addition to his IT virtuosity. So I sent him an SMS telling what I was reading and how keen I was to meet him. He also was keen to meet so we set the date and finally we met yesterday.
We discussed a lot of things last night. He started with the ideas presented in the Long Tail book which gives an important insight on the need to best utilize internet for “value creation” processes. He said that he has implemented the ideas presented by the book for his own music store. It’s very interesting. I also shared me experience with reading in its entirety the Wikinomics book. This book is about the phenomena and the BIG opportunity that we can best utilize using internet. There are four things required in Wikinomics environment: openness, peering, sharing and acting globally. It sounds a good idea. We then explored all ideas to move ahead ….
It’s a fruitful meeting and was concluded by having dinner together with his team at Sate Tegal – Kuningan. Hmmm .. what a fabulous meeting …. You may want to read mas Budi’s story here.
By the way, the review of WIKINOMICS book will be featured at Koran Tempo Minggu, 24 Jun 2007 at Ruang Baca section. Have a pleasant reading!
[...] teori “long tail” dan mas Gatot cerita tentang “wikinomics“. (Ceritanya ada di sini.) Johar cerita tentang pengalaman di sini. Pokoknya [...]
So wikinomics is doing economics with ‘wiki phylosophy’ ?
Thanks for your comment.
Yes, pak Snefera!
Good example is LINUX – an open source software that was developed collaboratively (cocreation) by many programmers connected on the net voluntarily.
Cheers,
G
Long Tail juga bagus menurut Mas Budi Rahardjo.
Menurut saya masing2 buku mengupas angle yang berbeda tapi semuanya menarik dan memang ujung2nya ya konvergensi pak….
Salam,
G
Internet memang sudah merubah banyak sekali sisi hidup kita ya?
Googlenomics, wikinomics, longtail theory…
Apa sempat ngejar kita? Mengikuti sekalipun?
Mas antoix,
Apakah kita punya pilihan? Rasanya tidak. Mau tidak mau ya kita mlayu kenceng mengejar ketinggalan … Lha wong ketemu mas Budi sama Mas Johar rasanya aku ORANG PALING GOBLOG di dunia ini. Mereka pakar semua .. minder aku …
Salam,
G
Pak Gatot, I’ve just half finished reading the book. It’s an interesting read, indeed. What really got me thinking was the phenomena of open source. It seems to me that microsoft and its proprietary business model is under a severe attack (with IBM and other big guys backing up the new wave and huge customers like Govt of China starting to adopt it).
I am all for open source. It will level up the playing field, at least a bit. The trillions that we spend on windows, MS office, oracle, and ludicrously expensive ERP systems could otherwise be used to improve our education and infrastructure.
(BTW, nice blog you have here. You surely have a lot to share. Looking forward to your new posting)
