I have been writing book reviews for a one of leading newspapers in my country: Koran Tempo. My review usually featured on monthly basis (at the end of the month) because the media has a special topic: Ruang Baca (Reading Space).

I found your excellent book “Be The Solution” at local book store and after I read it, I wrote the review and it was published at the newspaper on last May 30, 2009.

Unfortunately it’s in Bahasa Indonesia but I can help you explain the essence of the review:

1. I made a general comment “Humanizing the Business”.
2. I started the review by asking the reader about what they think about business? Cruel? Only focus for money?
3. ANd then I started the discussion that entrepreneurs have done something that others think impossible to do (as you said in the book)
4. I also discussed about Konosuke Matshusita (not in your book but he represents quite well with the theme of your book) and Muhammad Yunus of Grameen Bank.
5. I also describe the experience with Whole Foods exactly as your book says.
6. I also invite the government officials in my country to read your book especially on the long horizon of education that requires long-term planning not only five years plan because they are (officials) elected for 5 years only.
7. At the closing section I sum-up that every individual must be “the solution” of the problems in his / her surroundings, at least. I recommend the readers to buy and read the book.

That’s about it, Michael.

Oh yes, I established a company (just a boutique consulting firm) with Value Quest name because I like the idea of creating value in any activity we do everyday, especially this means adding value to our clients. Business and life is actually the quest for value …. ANd I have made a simple abbreviation for VALUE:

Vision and Action Lead Us to Excellence

Because:

Vision without action is just a dream
Action without vision is just an activity, no direction
Vision and action will change the world

I love the concept of Value Quest, by the way. One of my forthcoming projects is an article that will tentatively be titled “The Social Responsibility of Business is to Create Value with All Stakeholders.”
