As usual every Friday as a muslim I went to a Friday Pray today. Because I came to the mosque (well, actually it’s not a mosque because it’s Indosat’s ballroom which usually used for shareholders meeting, converted to function as a mosque every Friday). The imam was a wise man, Jarri Khan, who talked nicely for the khotbah. I think he is approximately at his 60 and looks very wise. I was so interested with all teachings that he shared which I summarize as follows:
As muslim, we have to be very thankful that we have been given the true belief in Allah the Almighty. We should maintain and even keep improving this belief to the next level everyday. This belief is the most precious thing given to us and it’s much more important than any welfare or even wellness. We live this life for temporarily so that what ever we do during life is an investment for our future life after death. We have to be considerate in whatever we do.
The concept and meaning of jihad has been misinterpreted by many people as Islam fight to all of Islam enemies. The Quran has never taught us to become a human being that loves war – there is no such thing under Islam verse that says that war as a destiny. Even our prophet Muhammad taught us that even during war we should not kill women and children. Not only that, we should not cut down trees and / or animals. This is very clearly stated that Islam loves peace very much ….
Jihad is actually doing things in the name of Allah. This is because Islam means “surrender” or in other words it is a “total submission in the will of Allah, the Almighty.” Take a simple example: if you go to work in the morning until evening, with an intention to work in the name of Allah, that’s jihad. This is to emphasize that we have been created by Allah to do good deed, blessed by Allah SWT.
Keep improving your faith
The imam told the story about his meeting (two times) with Jusuf Islam (previously known as Cat Stevens). Cat Stevens was sick in 1976. Someone gave him the Qur’an which he did not understand what was it for. But he skimmed the contents anyway – because there was English translation inside the Qur’an. The more pages he flipped through the more he found its beauty and truths until finally he was amazed by the contents of Qur’an and he researched about the truths of Qur’an contents, until finally he surrendered to Allah SWT to become a muslim. Subhanallah.
Jusuf Islam kept learning the Qur’an day by day, month by month, year by year he read the Qur’an and finally he has mastered the contents and meanings of Qur’an. How many of us have mastered the Qur’an? Not that many. That’s why we need to follow the path of Jusuf Islam in which he found Islam through research – while most of us were born as Islam should know more about Qur’an.
The World’s Pressure on Islam
Islam has been sentenced by the world as “terrorist” – which is contrary to the reality. The more pressure the world gives to Islam, more people will beconverted to Islam. This is now happening in the world. Subhanallah ….
